Theorizing Translanguage for Educators by Ofelia Garcia

I found this article to be really good because I never knew how important this translanguage is for some families that cannot speak English. It is amazing how many children would benefit from this if it was in schools that really need it and I love the idea to help these children out that have a language carrier. There were three quotes that really struck me in this article for many reasons.            "If a question is asked, and someone gets up to consult Google for the answer, family members write in the search box items in one another language, and often in both, to compare answers fom different sites" (Garcia). It is amazing that people to know to use google if thy do not know what someone is saying. I would have never o thought to pick up my phone and plug whatever someone said into the search bar. I do have a question though. How accurate is google when translating what someone said? I feel like it is not so ...

MaIntosh and Kozol Articles

In the McIntosh artice I do have to say that I do believe that the white race does recongize white privilege because some use it to get what they want. I am not saying that everyone is aware of it but I do believe people intentionally use it to their advantage to get what they want and to make them as powerful as they can. It also affects the people that they are in their way because they have to take whatever is being thrown at them. I do agree with her that whenever a white person and a African American are buying the house the white person would get the house bcause that person is white. I feel like it is not as bad as it was back 30 years ago but it still does affect people to this day and it can be vey serious. In the job place it is the most obvious because there are jobs that refuse to hire anyone but white people. I personally feel like society as a whole needs to let go of this white privilege concept because it makes the hard wor...

U.S.A, Land of Limitations by Nicholas Kristof

This article is very interesting and has brought some insight on how not everyone has the the chance to in a sence live in the "land of opportunity" because of many different reasons. I would really like to quote the entire article but I did chose three quotes that I thought in my opninion are good.  "Rick, Who thought he was one-eighth American Indian, pretty much raised himself, along with his brother and two sisters. His mom died when he was five, and his dad--"a professional drunk,"  Rick once told me --abandoned the family. A grandmother presided, and the kids hunted and fished to put food on the table."(Kristof). That is a lot for young children to have to worry about. Those kids should have been worried about is what and where am I going to eat lunch at school. They do not have a great start out of the gate and it is sad because all children should have opportunity to have a good education but it is hard when they have to worry about putting...
