MaIntosh and Kozol Articles

             In the McIntosh artice I do have to say that I do believe that the white race does recongize white privilege because some use it to get what they want. I am not saying that everyone is aware of it but I do believe people intentionally use it to their advantage to get what they want and to make them as powerful as they can. It also affects the people that they are in their way because they have to take whatever is being thrown at them. I do agree with her that whenever a white person and a African American are buying the house the white person would get the house bcause that person is white. I feel like it is not as bad as it was back 30 years ago but it still does affect people to this day and it can be vey serious. In the job place it is the most obvious because there are jobs that refuse to hire anyone but white people. I personally feel like society as a whole needs to let go of this white privilege concept because it makes the hard working white people that accepts anyone look like we think the same as the people that are for white privilege. 

             In the Kozol article it is so sad that children have to grow up in those conditions. They should not be around people that are dealing drugs. It also makes me really sad that inorder to provide for their kids they have to sell drugs or become a prostitute. I know people the guy sells drugs and the girl some times gets paid for sex because they do not want to be tied down at a job. They have two kids that are young. It makes me sad to see them to that because deep down they are good people and they just want to do things that could put them in jail and their kids could lose their parents. It is really sad to see people that you care about be in a situation like that.

    I totally agree with what you said about the McIntosh article, the privilege that white people have is definitely not as bad as it has been but it not fair or recognized all the time presently.

    I think it’s interesting how you pointed out that people do, in fact, notice their white privilege. I never really thought about it in the way that you mentioned, saying how they use it to get their own way. I’m glad you opened my mind up to a new perspective!

    I agree with the comment you made about how children should not be around drug dealing and things like that but unfortunately they can't help it. It may be the only area the parent can afford to live because usually in those areas rent is really cheap because of the area itself. No child deserves to grow up in that area and unfortunately it can actually really do harm mentally and physically to a child.

Kliewer: Citizenship in school: Reconceptualizing Down Syndrome “Now we know that people with disabilities can learn and have a full, rich life. The challenge is to erase negative attitudes about people with developmental disabilities, get rid of the stereotypes and break the barriers for people with disabilities” (Kliewer). I find it so disgusting that people actually think that it is okay to have all these negative attitudes towards people with disabilities.
